This is my first blog in what I hope will be a long series of interesting discussions about photography.  I will begin by introducing myself.  I would love to talk of my many years of experience in photography, but the truth is my serious interest in the subject began about two years ago with the purchase of a Canon 5D camera.  Since then I have been hooked and I have focused my hobby on primarily two types of photography.

Travel photography - every year we go somewhere interesting and in the last few years we have been to Singapore, Peru, Italy, France, Dubai, Thailand, and Israel.  Each trip I work towards improving my photography and looking back I think I have achieved this.

Macro photography - I started with a Canon 500D adapter on my Sigma 80-400mm lens and I was quickly hooked on macro photography.  Since then I have significantly upgraded my equipment and when not on vacation this is the type of photography I spend most of my time on.  Since we have small children at home, macro photography works well as I only need to travel out to the garden to find interesting subjects.

I am also interested in landscape photography, though I rarely get the chance to take these photos.  I am not interested at all in people photography, with the exception of my kids.  In my next series of blogs I will talk about macro photography, beginning with how to get started and later covering the unique Canon MP-E 65 lens.

  1. Congrats and how exciting you have started your own photography blog! After you get a few post on here . . . expect me to send some people over your direction!

  2. Congrats on your blog. Your photography is great. I can’t talk the talk but I will pop in to see what has captured your interest as you are now showing things I like to see. Heck I might even learn something. I only have a point and shoot. It works for what I normally photograph. However sometimes I wish I could do more.
